About now, many persons are checking their air to make sure they are in working order. It is estimated that at least 17 per cent of all American homes now have one or more air conditioning units.
Air conditioning in a primitive form was used .500 years ago by the Indians who hung wet blankets in their breezeways to cool the temperature in their sleeping quarters. Long before air-conditioning units were used in homes they were used to stabilize the temperature and moisture in such industries as textile, candy and paper mannfarturing. Important as it is to cool and dehumidify the air in hot weather, it is essential that an air-conditioner permit adjustment of the temperature, fan speed and direction of air flow to prevent blowing directly on persons in the room. In addition to the comfort provided by the cooling unit the air filter keeps out soot, aust, pollen and germs. Furthermore i it has been found to increase the efficiency of workers in offices and facturies.
It is a distinct boon to persons with asthma and heart disease.
